Design Story:
This suburban rancher was originally a nondescript and modest childhood home that our homeowner client grew up in. Now a parent with a family and twin girls of her own, she had the unique opportunity to purchase the aging house from her parents, and modernize it for a new generation. The homeowners originally engaged an architect with relations to their family to do the shell design and obtain permits. Then they reached out to Re:modern to complete the project from demolition onwards and finish out the interior architecture, finishes, furnishings, and details to be in sync with their modern and contemporary taste.

To make the home a luxurious retreat for this busy family, we kept the palette light and fresh throughout and furnishings minimal. Strategic built-ins in every room became the secret weapon for clutter control, freeing up open spaces to showcase items they loved. Choices in materials and detailing were extra important in this project because they needed to be elevated, yet still low maintenance.

Favorite Moments:
Experiencing with the homeowner, how simple decisions synthesize together to elevate an entire home. The perfect white paint, seamless site-finished floors, and a ‘place-for-everything’ approach. This project demonstrated how a family friendly home can still feel calm and totally luxe.

Client wins:

  • An expanded home in a neighborhood they knew
  • A home for multi-generational memories
  • Family friendly spaces
  • Clutter control
  • Hidden storage, galore!
  • Clean and tidy luxury – achieved!
