Give Back PolicyRe:modern is a woman-owned, small company founded on the premise that good design engages with its surroundings, so it only seemed natural that giving back is part of our core business model. It's really quite simple. 
A portion of all net profits from sales goes towards causes in support of the arts, community, and environment. We've established a progressive giving schedule based on hitting sales targets. The more you buy, the more we give. Guilt-free, good-to-your-conscience shopping is just a click away.
2008 - A certified Green BusinessRemodern Design has been operating under environmentally responsible practices ever since day one, and now it's official! After an extensive application and audit of our business, we have just received certification as bay area green business. It's great to be recognized as one of the first green businesses in our county's pilot program. Our company doesn't just design green, we live and work green everyday. 2007 - Committed to Green Causes More than Ever Re:modern is happy to announce that this was the year our business offset its carbon emissions! We partnered with the non-profit CarbonFund to offset 70 tons of carbon (more than what we calculated to have produced, just for safe measure). Re:modern also continued our commitment to 1% For The Planet, as well as the following other non-profit organizations, well exceeding the 1% baseline.
Re:modern also helped celebrate the grand opening of a new community garden in Harlem through a collaboration with the New York Restoration Project and the Broadway crew of Wicked.
2006 Marks a Record Year of Giving BackRe:modern began the year with a commitment to 1% For The Planet, a non-profit foundation whose retail members pledge to donate at least 1% of their annual net revenues towards the natural environment. By the end of the year, we came across so many causes to support that Re:modern well exceeded the 1% baseline. This was the year Re:modern gave to the following charitable organizations and their worthy causes: The Nature Conservancy - one of our favorite charities that preserves the natural environment by purchasing resources to conserve in perpetuity Conservation International - another major player in protecting the world's biodiversity The Ocean Conservancy - Oceans are a vast part of the the earth's environment, yet occupy a very small part of our understanding and awareness of ecological issues. This organization has been around for three decades promoting wild, diverse, and healthy oceans. The Rainforest Foundation - Preserving rainforests can be beneficial to both indigenous inhabitants and the environment. Visit RFF's website to find out how. Architecture for Humanity - Where the eternal optimism of the design world meets humanitarian causes. These folks are out to make the world better. Re:modern also supported learning and the arts through a donation to the Congressional Art Competition for students, and engaged our local community by offering a student internship via San Jose State University. Re:modern teams up with The Collage FoundationIn 2005, we took part in a special eco-project collaboration with designer Alex Spadea, Hotel Triton, and the Collage Foundation. Re:modern helped sponsor the creation of an eco hotel suite. The fashion-inspired room was furnished with stylishly sustainable decor throughout, and every time a guest books the suite, a portion of the room rate goes to benefit The Collage Foundation, a non-profit foundation that's trying to engage youth in today's complex environmental and social issues. Founded by celebrity supermodel Angela Lindvall, The Collage Foundation inspires action through fun and high-profile examples, information, and resources. Architecture for HumanityAlso in 2005,Re:modern gave to Architecture for Humanity's and Worldchanging.com's tsunami reconstruction efforts called Project Re:build. The good folks at Architecture for Humanity assembled a team of local architects to aid in reconstruction in Sri Lanka immediately after the tsunami. They have already developed a redevelopment master plan for the coastal village of Kirinda and are currently realizing the plan. The Breast Cancer FundIn 2004, Re:modern contributed to The Breast Cancer Fund to support their cutting-edge research and education on the links between consumer products and cancer-causing toxins.
