What exactly is Eco-modern Design? Perhaps you've heard the term before and never gave it much thought. Is ecomodernism the same as green design? How is ecomodern design different than what we commonly consider to be just plain modern design? Eco-modern Design is the convergence of Modern Design with the Green Revolution. Modern design of the mid-20th century primarily focused on merging the aesthetics of form with function. The functional constraint that went into design was often based on an object's use or utility, and in most instances, did not expand to cover environmental concerns. The current green revolution which took hold in the late-20th century strove for social justice and ecological responsibility. Its focus was largely on reducing the impact of human activity on the environment and not on aesthetics. Ecomodern design combines these two movements by merging the aesthetic sensibility of Modernism with the resource awareness of environmentalism.
