Living Space Sneak Peek

January 19th, 2012

We recently designed an interior for a very vibrant individual and mixed up bold patterns, textures, and colors to the extreme. The space was completely over the top and fabulously cozy at the same time.  We packed the space with a blend of handmade, vintage, and modern design goodness. Here are some sneak peak images featuring lovely wallpaper by Abigail Edwards, Hygge & West’s Oh Joy! collection and glimmery recycled tile from EcoHome Improvement. You may even recognize how we repurposed a salad bowl from Re:modern’s own collection to make a colorful planter for succulents.

The finished project will be revealed on January 29th on Home and Garden Television. Tune in to HGTV, 11:30am E/P time to watch, and follow us on Facebook and Twitter for more updates!

Offsetting Carbon Emissions

December 31st, 2011
What one ton of CO2 looks like

What one ton of CO2 looks like

It’s become an annual tradition for us now to sit down at year’s end, calculate how much carbon we use from daily activities, then partner up with Carbonfund to offset those emissions. Many people don’t realize that just about every action we do has carbon implications where emissions go into the atmosphere and contribute to global warming.  This includes everything from daily commutes, to turning on the computer, to transporting packages.  As a committed green business, Re:modern donates money every year to offset what we generate, and more!

For 2012, we’ve contributed enough to offset 36 metric tons of CO2 emissions that would otherwise have gone into the atmosphere. How much is 36 metric tons of carbon dioxide, you ask? Well, this model (see photo) by a science teacher and his students at Cohasset High School measures 27′ x 27′ x 27′ and demonstrates just one metric ton of C02. That’s a lot of carbon!

Re:modern on HGTV

November 2nd, 2011

It’s room makeover time! We were recently invited to guest design an eclectic and eco-friendly indoor/outdoor space for an HGTV television show. The project is packed full of sustainable design elements and we are currently in the middle of construction and filming it in San Francisco. We can’t disclose what the name of the show is until after it airs, but in the meantime, visit our Re:modern Facebook page for updates and sneak peeks!

Giant Sandcastles for a Good Cause

October 12th, 2011

It’s sandcastle-building time at one of our all time favorite events!

LEAP is a nonprofit organization that brings art and architecture into public elementary schools. Here’s a scene from LEAP’s recent sandcastle competition in San Francisco. Each giant sandcastle is constructed by a class of students along with professional architects and contractors. Re:modern was proud to be a co-sponsor of the Handel Architects team this year. The Handel team also comprised of kids from the Claire Lilienthal Alternative School and SC Builders.

Bucky Fuller-inspired Origami

August 20th, 2011

Clara von Zweigbergk’s design for a decorative hanging mobile is the perfect balance of color and geometry. With the movement of an Alexander Calder sculpture, the structure of a Buckminster Fuller geodesic dome, and the lightness of origami, the Themis Trio will surely bring a carefree spirit to any decor. New to our little shop and fantastically affordable at under $30!

New Wall Flat Patterns!

August 9th, 2011

Hive Wall Flats

We are so excited about adding 3 new patterns of Inhabit Wall Flats to our eco-modern wallcovering collection:
Hive, Luna, and Drift.

Unlike regular rolls of wallpaper, Wall Flats come in 18″x18″ square tiles that can easily be installed either permanently, or temporarily to walls. They can also be trimmed with a utility knife, so no special tools are needed for the average do-it-yourselfer. For permanent installations, simply brush on wallpaper paste (available from your local hardware store), adhere the tiles, and let dry. For temporary installations (great for dorm rooms and renters), use double-stick foam tape or tack the tiles directly to the wall. Each box contains 10 tiles for 22.5 square feet of coverage.

The tiles are made from bamboo pulp and come in a smooth, white finish straight out of the box. But if you want to personalize it for your space, they are completely paintable. We recommend installing them to the wall first, then painting the tiles. Paintable, 3-dimensional wallpaper – what could be better than that! View our entire collection of Wall Flats and other modern wall coverings here.
